Oscar winning actor and artist Anthony Hopkins has donated an original piece of his artwork to Limestone College in Gaffney, South Carolina for the College's Theatre Department’s silent auction fundraiser. The fundraiser is being held in conjunction with the College’s production of Art, a Tony Award-winning comedy that will be presented on September 25-28 at the old Brown Furniture Building in downtown Gaffney. The auction will also include artwork donated by members of the surrounding community. Attendees will be able to bid on the donated pieces for the length of the show’s run. According to the College, the Anthony Hopkins artwork that is up for auction (shown here) is a color ink-on-paper piece, double-signed, with a certificate of authenticity. Bidding for it will begin at $1,500, which they say is well below its estimated value.

According to Anthony Hopkins' art website Hopkins started painting in 2002 with the encouragement of his wife, Stella. The website says that his Ink Drawings and Acrylic Paintings have been inspired by the "Impressions" of his travels through the American Southwest.
