Icons Of Music Auction To Benefit Music Rising
Icons of Music II, the second auction benefiting Music Rising, hosted by Julien’s Auctions, will take place Saturday, May 31, 2008 at Hard Rock Cafe New York in Times Square. Music Rising was co-founded by U2’s the Edge, producer Bob Ezrin, and Gibson Guitar Chairman and CEO Henry Juszkiewicz in 2005 to aid musicians of the Gulf Coast Region in regaining their livelihood after the devastation of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Among the items to be auction are items donated by the Edge such as his early stage played 1976 Gibson Explorer, his silver adjustable U2 block rings featured on the cover of Atchung Baby, a blue Gibson Les Paul electric guitar used by Edge in many studio recordings, and his personally worn custom designed Converse. A few of the other rare items to be auctioned include a Kurt Cobain played early bass guitar with home photos of him playing it, a Jim Morrison handwritten poem, a Miles Davis stage played trumpet, and a Jimi Hendrix signed receipt. There are also a number of artworks created by musicians in the auction, such as original paintings by Dee Dee Ramone and Frank Zappa, original drawings by Paul McCartney, Joni Mitchell, and John Lennon, and limited edition prints by Ringo Starr, Ronnie Wood, and Jerry Garcia.
