David Byrne's Obsession With Chairs
Talking Heads front-man David Byrne’s self described obsession with chairs first became evident with his design of the cover of the new wave group’s 1983 album "Speaking in Tongues". He describes the cover as "4 photos of a drunken chair, showing off."
Fast forward to 2007 and Byrne’s chair obsession continues. He has created an exhibit titled "Furnishing the Self - Upholstering the Soul". The exhibit is said to consist of unique chair designs by David Byrne. It includes constructed chairs as well as a group of Byrne’s sketches embroidered onto upholstery fabric and released as limited editions by Pace Prints.
