In 2000 Slovakian artist and graphic arts specialist Juraj Kralik approached tennis great Martina Navratilova with his concept to take the shapes and objects from the tennis court and put them on canvas. Navratilova agreed to join him in the project and the result was the Art Grand Slam.

The Art Grand Slam exhibition was on display last summer at the Tenniseum: The Roland-Garros Museum in Paris. According to the Tenniseum, "The exhibition was put together across the four mythic Grand Slam locations. Using shapes and objects taken from the very courts themselves, the various works of art encapsulate the impact that a tennis ball makes – in paint! Navratilova was then given a canvas on which to leave behind a trace of the clay from Roland Garros and the hard courts of Flushing Meadow and Melbourne, with the end result a riot of colours and fabrics."

***Edit, May 15, 2008: Art Grand Slam will on exhibit in New Orleans, Louisiana May 19 through June 21, 2008. On May 18, Martina and Juraj will be creating an original Art Grand Slam work on the courts of the Tennis Center at City Park in New Orleans, and the public is invited to come watch.
