Artwork by Actress Sophia Loren
For many years The World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA) conducted a fundraising program based on the sale of first day covers of UN stamps and lithographs produced by artists and celebrities. Participating artists included Picasso, Joan Miro, Salvador Dali, Al Hirschfeld and Andy Warhol. Celebrities that produced artwork included actress Grace Kelly (later Princess Grace of Monaco), actress Gloria Swanson, and Italian actress Sophia Loren. In September 1982, Loren created two paintings for WFUNA: "Hope" and "Magical Flower". One of the limited edition lithographs of Sophia Loren's painting "Hope" is currently up for auction at CharityBuzz.com. The image shows "the outstretched arms of both children and adults reaching from the depths of darkness for the light and the hope of the sun." The auction is scheduled to close Aug 27, 2009.
