Herb Alpert: Painter and Sculptor

Grammy award winning musician and composer Herb Alpert is also a painter and a sculptor. He has had a number if solo exhibitions of his artwork throughout the US and internationally, as well as several permanent installations of his sculptures. According to his website, "Alpert’s evolution as a visual artist began during his visits to museums, galleries and artists in his travels throughout Central and North America and Europe in the 1960s. His exposure to some of the great collections of abstract painting led him to begin creating his own large-format paintings and sculpture." His recent body of work, Spirit Totems, is said to be inspired by the totem poles of the Tlingit tribe in the Pacific Northwest. The finished castings weigh about 1000 lbs each and measure up to 11 feet in height.

His next exhibit, "Herb Alpert Black Totem Series", opens February 5, 2010 at Ace Gallery in Beverly Hills.
