Legendary dancer Mikhail Baryshnikov has been a photographer for 35 years, and his photographs have been exhibited in museums and galleries all over the world. Twenty seven of Baryshnikov’s photographs are now on exhibit at the Gary Nader Arts Center in Miami. The exhibit, titled “Dance This Way” includes large photos of dancers as they perform.

He tells NBCMiami: “You kind of get on a spiritual trip. When the performance is over, you are kind of recovering,” he said. “I take thousands of images and it takes me a long, long time to select. My eye catches it and heart stops. This is exactly what I want.”

The exhibit opened to the public on February 24, 2012 and continues through March. A percentage of sales from the show will be donated to Women of Tomorrow Mentor & Scholarship Program.

In 2009 Mikhail Baryshnikov released a book of his photographs titled Merce My Way, in which he pays homage to the work of master choreographer Merce Cunningham. The book includes 85 color images of the Merce Cunningham Dance Company.
