Artist and Art Patron David Bowie
Singer, songwriter, musician and actor David Bowie is also an artist. He first studied art as a child while attending Bromley Technical High School in England. He worked as a commercial artist at an advertising agency prior to pursuing his musical career. David Bowie has continued to paint throughout his career in music. The image posted here is "Reality". He used this image for the cover of his 2003 CD of the same name.
However, David Bowie’s interest in art doesn’t stop at creating his own work. Through Bowieart he also sponsors young emerging artists. At David Bowie’s official website, Bowieart is described as “David Bowie’s art website that features the best in emerging art alongside David’s own original work.” Bowieart displays the artwork of art students from Glasgow School of Art, Goldsmiths in London, New York Academy of Art, Parsons in New York, Royal College of Art in London, San Francisco Art Institute, and School of Visual Arts in New York. The artwork of recent graduates is also displayed.
Bowieart also sponsors real word exhibitions such as BLOC at County Hall Gallery in London in March 2005.
