Offbeat Art by David Byrne: Same as it ever was?
David Byrne, the co-founder and frontman of the popular 1980s new wave band, "Talking Heads" has been added to page 2 of my list of celebrity artists. If you are at all familiar with David Byrne and Talking Heads, you won't be surprised to hear that his artwork is a bit unusual.
David Byrne's current exhibition at Pace/MacGill Gallery in New York city is titled "David Byrne: Furnishing The Self And Upholstering The Soul." The Pace/MacGill press release describes it as:
"an exhibition of unique chair designs by David Byrne. Bringing together several recently constructed chairs with Byrne’s original drawings for their design, the exhibition will also feature a group of Byrne’s imaginative sketches embroidered onto upholstery fabric and released as editions by PaceEditions."
The exhibition coincides with the release of Byrne’s new book
Arboretum.
The exhibition closes November 25, 2006.
