Gil Garcetti served as the Los Angeles County District Attorney from 1992 to 2000, overseeing several high profile cases, including the O.J. Simpson trial. He was portrayed by Bruce Greenwood in the acclaimed 2016 FX series American Crime Story: The People v. O. J. Simpson. He is also the father of current Los Angeles mayor, Eric Garcetti.

According to his bio, Gil Garcetti has been a photographer since about the age of 13. But it wasn’t until he left his position as Los Angeles County District Attorney in 2000, that he made photography his profession. He says that it began with a photo of an ironworker working on the construction of the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles. This led to his first book in 2002, Iron: Erecting the Walt Disney Concert Hall. Since then, he has published six additional books and has exhibited his photographs around the world.

Garcetti’s photographs are currently on exhibit at the California Science Center in Los Angeles. Mission 26: ET Comes Home Photographs by Gil Garcetti features photos of  last space shuttle external tank (ET) as it traveled from NASA’s Michoud Assembly Facility in New Orleans, Louisiana, through the Panama Canal, its arrival in Marina del Rey, and its journey through the streets of Los Angeles and Inglewood on the way to the Science Center where it is on permanent display. Garcetti talks to the Daily Breeze about the exhibit here.
