Action movie star Sylvester Stallone says that he began painting before he found fame as an actor. An exhibition of paintings by Sylvester Stallone is currently showing at Galerie Contemporaine du Musée de Nice in France. ‘Real Love: Paintings 1975-2015′ is said to encompass four decades of Stallone’s work as a painter, from his earliest figurative works to his most recent large abstract canvases.

Sylvester Stallone’s character Rocky was ispired by his own painting. He says that he painted Rocky before he began to write the screenplay for the 1976 movie.

Stallone gives detailed descriptions and tells the stories behind his paintings in the video below. Some common themes in his paintings include the word “life”, clocks, other celebrities, and partial frames. Several of his paintings make reference to his personal life and his movies.
