On September 22, 2013 Julien’s Auctions held their “Property from the Estate of Phyllis Diller” auction. Diller had a “secondary career as studio painter”, according to the auction description. The auction featured seventeen original artworks by the comedian. Most of the pieces sold in the range of $1,000 to $4,000, but her “Spotlight” painting sold for more than $10,000. It is said that this painting was in the foyer of Phyllis Diller’s house and that she would have each of her houseguests take a picture in front of this painting upon entry to her home. A pink painter’s smock and tan checked visor, used by Phyllis Diller to paint in her home studio, were also auctioned.
