Parade – Flag Day, Painting by Bernie Taupin
Famed songwriter and Elton John collaborator Bernie Taupin says painting is not just a hobby for him. Taupin told azcentral.com, “I loathe people thinking of it as a hobby, because I spend far more time on my painting than I do in creating songs.” He says that he only writes lyrics when he has a project coming up. However, he estimates that painting takes up 80 percent of his time.
Taupin says that he began painting seriously in the early 1990s when he moved to his ranch in Santa Ynez Valley, California near Santa Barbara. He just recently began exhibiting his paintings to the public.
Taupin’s art was on display in Scottsdale, Arizona this weekend. He has shows in Laguna Beach, California and Nashville, Tennessee in the coming months. For more information, visit Limelight Agency.
In the videos below Bernie Taupin talks about his inspirations and his process for creating art and music. These videos were taped last year prior to a previous exhibit in Texas.
