Singer, songwriter, producer Bob Neuwirth is probably best known for his work with acclaimed musical artists such as Bob Dylan, Patti Smith, T-Bone Burnett, Janis Joplin, Kris Kristofferson, and many others. However, Bob Neuwirth was a painter first. He began painting as a teenager in Ohio. He says that, while a student at Ohio University, artist Jim Dine encouraged him to go to the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. Neuwirth’s forty-five year career in art, has included painting, sculpture, filmmaking and music. He says, “all art is visual for me, whether I’m painting or trying to write a good song.”
Overs & Unders: Paintings by Bob Neuwirth, 1964 – 2009 is currently on exhibit at Track 16 Gallery in Santa Monica. According to the gallery, Overs & Unders offers the first comprehensive overview of Neuwirth’s stylistic development. The exhibit opened with a reception on May 14 and continues through June 11, 2011. In conjunction with the the exhibit, there will be a Live Talks Los Angeles event, Bob Neuwirth in conversation with David Felton, Tuesday, June 7, 2011.
