Legendary rocker and Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood is embarking on a new art project. With this new “Formula 1 themed” project, Wood will paint an Armin Strom watch, a Virgin Racing Formula One car and a Virgin Racing driver’s helmet. Swiss watchmaker Armin Strom is the official Timing Partner of the Virgin Racing Formula One Team.

According to Armin Strom, once completed, Ronnie Wood’s “Art Car” will be seen during the year at several public events as a static display and a replica of the “Art Car” may be seen in action later in the year at a non F1 event, like the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The car will later be be auctioned for charity in co-operation with Christie’s at a gala event in 2011. The Virgin Racing driver’s helmets will be painted with a similar “Art Car” theme, and will be worn at one of the sessions during a Grand Prix Weekend in 2011. The helmet will also be auctioned at the same gala event.

The final part of the project is the Art Watch. Armin Strom says that Ronnie Wood is going to paint a watch, including several bridges of the movement, which will be visible through the front and the sapphire case back. The watch will be auctioned at the 2011 “ONLY WATCH” exhibition in Monaco, in aid of Prince Albert’s charity. After the auction, a limited series of 25 “replicas” will be manufactured and made available for sale in the second half of 2011.

Ronnie Wood taped the following message for the Linder Luxury party at Asprey of London on the 18th November, where the Armin Strom/Virgin Racing Art Car Project was announced.

Painter and musician Ronnie Wood is no stranger to unusual art projects. Last year he partnered with Liberty of London to create the Ronnie Wood for Liberty of London capsule clothing collection.
