Tony Curtis: Actor and Artist

According to the bio at his website Tony Curtis has had a second career as a painter, assemblage creator, and sketcher since the early 1960s. It goes on to say that his work can command more than $50,000 a canvas and that he now focuses on his art rather than movies. Curtis says “I still make movies but I’m not that interested any more. I paint all the time.” His artwork is available for purchase at his website.

Tony Curtis also has a love of horses. He is the biggest supporter of Shiloh Horse Rescue and Sanctuary, a non-profit horse rescue started by he and his wife, Jill in 2003. He has recently combined his love of art and horses by his participation with The Trail of Painted Ponies. The Trail of Painted Ponies creates collectible figurines from life-size fiberglass horses, painted by a variety of artists, with a portion of the proceeds from sales going to non-profit organizations.

The Trail of Painted Ponies recently launched their “Celebrity Collection” with the Shiloh figurine by Tony Curtis. The design features another of Curtis’ favorite things, cats. Shiloh, debuts at retail stores on March 15, 2010, and is available for pre-order now at the Trail of Painted Ponies website. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of each Shiloh figurine will benefit Shiloh Horse Rescue and Sanctuary.

On Saturday, March 27, 2010, Tony Curtis will make a special appearance at the Dillard’s store in the Fashion Show mall in Las Vegas. The original life-sized Shiloh painted pony will be on display, and Tony Curtis will autograph each figurine purchased. For more information, visit the Dillard’s website.

In April 2010, Tony Curtis will participate in the TCM Classic Film Festival in Hollywood. He will display his original artwork, and sign his book, American Prince: A Memoir.
